Objectives

The 38 story tall Block 37 Residential Tower in Chicago, IL, features a green roof deck and spa terrace which is surrounded by a 260’ glass windscreen by Bellwether.  The project was handled as a design-build, with a system created to meet architectural intent, while being efficient to install beneath the roof paver system.

Approach

The windscreen design incorporates 13/16″ thick glass lites which are 7’ tall and 4′ wide.  The glass is supported by stainless-clad posts and point supported fittings.

Results

Striking views of the city are offered through the transparent structure, and a stainless steel handrail is incorporated into the design for an additional measure of safety.
