Objectives

The canopy at Roosevelt University was designed as a dramatic element of a faceted curtain wall system. The design includes outriggers that penetrate the curtain wall, and an integrated gutter at the building.

Approach

Rather than use typical point supported, through-glass fittings, the design intent included custom stainless patch fittings with positioning keys to anchor the glass and retain glass joint dimensions. Bellwether created custom-designed and fabricated fittings, positioning keys, and a unique gutter for a seamless aesthetic blend with the curtain wall system.

Results

The canopy at Roosevelt University appears simple and clean in design, with only subtle indications of the glass fitting system. The new façade incorporated an angular, all-glass look for a modern aesthetic.
